This large pond was in great need of being softened into its surroundings. It is in a windy frost pocket in Balerno and so extra attention needed to be paid when selecting plants. A mixture of hardy perennials, grasses and shelter shrubs have been planted to give a long season of colour, foliage and textural interest.
The area around the pond was further softened by the creation of a gravel planting and pathway linking the decking to the rest of the garden. Structural box balls define the space which will be luxurious and billowing come the summer.
