Northern Irish Garden, 2007

This garden was a very exposed site and so had to be carefully planned to make the most of existing shelter provided by the trees and hedges surrounding the property. A series of interlinking lawns flow around the house and deep planting reflects the proportions of the building, softening it and connecting it to the landscape. Distinct areas are created using the spectacular views to direct the eye through the garden and out into the countryside beyond, making the garden seem larger and more dramatic. Stone urns, planters and sculptural features give detail and interest closer to the house, adding the human touch to the garden.
